We're currently rewriting Growl's network code from scratch; hopefully sometime in the not too distant future it'll be ready for testing. Whatever problems the old code had are unlikely to be found in the new, and we won't be working on fixing bugs with the old since it's to be completely replaced. When it's ready, I'd be interested to hear if you have the same issue - my expectation is that you can expect this to be fixed in a future version of Growl.
