That's not how to uninstall Growl.

Growl has a great uninstaller, it ships with the Growl disk image.

Please download the Growl installer from http://growl.info

Once there, open the disk image, find the uninstaller, and remove Growl.

If you continue to have popups, it may be another program. An easy way to
see if Growl is running, is to look in Activity Monitor and verify that
GrowlHelperApp is running. If it is not running, then it's not Growl.
