Go to your System Preferences. There is a Growl preference pane. Go there. In 
the General tab you can turn it off.

In the About tab you can find their website. If you download the installation 
dmg, there is a de-installation script in there.

It's actually a very useful tool and is free. It's very easy to get rid of.
