If the "Growl team" developed this software, is it correct to assume
the "Growl team" licenses this software to other applications/
programs?

If so, then it's tough to believe you have no control over how they
use it and if they are allowed to put it on my system without my
knowledge. I don't buy that you have no control over that.

Also, let's just say Growl is already installed on my computer, why is
it bugging me non-stop to upgrade? Are the incessant notices and
alerts to upgrade (and interruptions of my time) another application's
fault too? Did the "Growl team" have anything to do with how I get a
relentless and distracting notice every 5 minutes to upgrade Growl?
That notice by the way has a "Growl" logo on it.

I actually think "Growl" is who I should be complaining to.
