That's why HardwareGrowler doesn't mention it. That window shows everything the 
operating system knows about, and HwG can only notify about something the OS 
knows about.

You should take the computer and memory stick (I assume you mean a USB thumb 
drive, not a Memory Stick memory card) into an Apple Store and demonstrate to 
them how the memory stick doesn't come up in the USB tree and doesn't mount, 
either. Printers may require drivers, but any USB-mass-storage-compliant 
device—including every memory stick I've ever seen—should work.

It can be helpful if the AP flakes out, is too far away, gets turned off, etc. 
You'll know within a few seconds when your connection goes down, as opposed to 
staring at a browser loading screen for up to a minute wondering why the server 
suddenly got so slow.
