Software *can* run the processor and/or drives and/or GPU hard enough to raise the temperature of the machine, triggering the Mac to drive its fans up to full blast. Let's not dismiss the OP's claims out of hand. Growl certainly doesn't directly control the fan, but it's entirely possible that a bug manifested that indirectly resulted in the fans spinning up. It would be good to find out exactly what happened. Calling Growl “dangerous” and a fire hazard is hyperbole at best (the Mac has fans as a fire *prevention* measure, and if they failed, the Mac would simply panic-shutdown before a fire could start), but there may still be a bug here and I'd like to find it. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Growl Discuss" group.
