If I may, and correct me if I'm wrong...

I have 1.3 myself, but my server is still running 1.2 because it's
still at 10.6 Server.  I've received one Growl notification that an
update (1.3.1) is available on it.  If I click it, it takes me to the
Growl page which, of course, leads to the AppStore to purchase it.

As a computer user NOTHING irks me more then being spammed to upgrade
to something that will cost me (more) money, be that Growl or any
other app. Want to send me a note that a free point update is
available? Awesome.

And yes, I can go into the prefs and disable new version notifications
- and I have.  Most may not think to do so and I wonder if the slight
uptick of messages here is because the old version is broadcasting an
upgrade notice.
