Growl did open using Launchpad and the settings window opened as well.
Previously, Growl would open, but without the settings window.

History: I did have the settings set so that the program would open
without an icon in the dock or menu bar, so I reset it to open with an
icon in the menubar. I closed and opened the settings window several
times and then reset it to open with no icon in the dock or the menu
bar. I closed the program and then successfully opened it from the
finder and it opened with the settings window. Success. All is working
as expected. Evidently, opening Growl with Launchpad set things right.
Thanks for that suggestion. I do not use Launchpad regularly and
forgot about it.
