Hello Ian

I am one of the Dropbox moderators, I noticed you mentioned it earlier on
in your topic.

When Dropbox starts it checks if Growl is running and if so it will use it.
If not It checks for Notification Center and if you have a system
supporting it. It will use it and as a last effort if neither of the 2
notification systems are present you will see Dropbox start to use its
built in notification system. It looks very similar to the Growl style
Smoke but with a blue haze around the bubble.

In short if you want it to use Growl. Growl has to be first on start up.

Once Dropbox chooses any of its methods it will not go back and recheck
later on during that run.

So,

If you Start Dropbox and then Growl, You would get Notification Center or
custom notifications. Depending on setup.
If you Start Growl and then Dropbox. You would get Growl notifications
If you start Dropbox and your system supports Notification Center then
start Growl. You get Notification center.

If you want to switch mid stream you would need to Quit Dropbox, make sure
Growl is running and then restart Dropbox.

I have also noticed after a clean reinstall of my system, that some times
you will not see Dropbox register with Growl, unless you allow Growl to
start first after a reboot. Weird I know but nonethelss I have also noticed
it myself.

As to me personally I always allow Growl to start first and it will be a
long time before they pry Growl off my Mac.

Cheers,

ps I also use Hazel so Ill try to keep an eye out on this thread. If you
have any other questions regarding it. The Dev of Hazel is a really
personable guy and has helped me trouble shoot a few odd ball issue's. The
only one I still know of personally involves using Total Finder and iTunes
importing.

Noodle soft also has a forum should you wish to gain any recipes etc that
may be of use to you. http://www.noodlesoft.com/forums/ I don't get there
often but it has some good information.

pss. I like to use Growl as much as possible and I like to get Dropbox
notifications out of my way at times. You may wish to look at the Bark
plugin and configure Dropbox to use it. I like it so I can send Dropbox to
Bark and Bark will send it to Notification Center. That way I get swipe to
dismiss and also once set up with Bark. Notification Center will keep a
history of your Dropbox events unlike normally when it just tosses them to
the trash. http://barkplug.in/# Make sure and restart you system to get
Bark and Notification Center working nicely. :)
