So we do have a gcc optimizer bug.  That's both comforting and frightnening.

Could you check whether r17150 (the current latest SVN), compiled with -O2
again, crashes during Bitzi lookups?  I've changed the function where the
crash was happening to not modify the arguments (which may be confusing the
optimizer).

Unfortunately it's going to be hard to report to the GCC folks since we
don't have a small test-case to show them.  We have a huge beast crashing...
