The bike has 24k miles on it. The plugs are a few years old, but I pull
them out and check the gap every year. They are the regular NGK's, not
platinum. When this happend, I immediately pulled the plugs expecting to
find a misfire, but they all looked good. I did regap them though.

  I personally am a stickler for maintenance. Oil changes at 2500 miles.
Until my bike was knocked over in the parking lot at my work, it was
considered mechanically and cosmetically PERFECT with the exception of a
very slight scratch on the front wheel, caused by a mechanic changing tires.
heheh, that guy will never forget THAT day...I was livid....

Jon;
   What kind of milage do you have on the bike? You can get aluminum in the

oil from wear on the clutch basket fingers, which is common on these bikes
and a weak spot on the fzr's. I doubt it is from the pistons but a
compression test and leakdown test is best to tell you the condition of the
motor. How long since you have changed the plugs?
