On my prototype (test)bike I killed 2 stock shocks in the first 30 000km. When it came
time for the third I went with a FOX aftermarket shock. The bike now has more than 280
000km+. It's still going. I don't think I'll ever kill this one. I even had it checked
out & the consensus was that it required no service at that point. That was a year
ago.It offers more adjustments or fine tuning than the stock one ever did .The
improvement in the control of the rear end is unbelievable until tried. For me this
experiment is a complete success. I don't have any experience on rebuilt stock
shocks.Ok the GTS comes with a more sophisticated shock setup than my other bike did.
On newer bikes that I have observed with similar shocks like the GTS, it seems that 30
000- 50 000 km is the point where their owners start to complain (allot) about
suspension control. Since I've had great success with my other bike's aftermarket
shock I went this route. Just the potential longevity makes it worth it for me. This
time though, I chose the Ohlins. I know they're not the only choice. The reason is
that since I was lets say younger.(A bikers dream) I've wanted a bike equipped with
front & rear Ohlins suspension. My GTS makes this (fantasy) an affordable reality.
(ever priced out a set of Ohlins forks?). Peter Piazza
