Well, I agree with you that the clinic is nothing spectacular and the ride
after can be dangerous. If any of the stuff covered in the discussion is
actually new info to the rider, the roads covered in the ride are probably
over their heads. Though besides 84, 35 and hwy 9, it seems all the roads in
that area have patchwork asphalt.
I'm not surprised he's had lawsuits(I'd be surprised if he didn't). In fact
one rider in our group did go down. It was a tight slow speed turn, so he
wasn't hurt and his bike just had scuff marks, broken turn signal. However,
it was obvious before the crash that he was riding over his head and
shouldn't have been riding in the fast group.
I don't have any friends in the Bay Area that ride. So, its fun for me to
get out with a group once in a while. I was able to maintain a safe distance
between myself and other riders. So, although I agree with everything you
said and wouldn't recommend it for a beginner, I had a good time anyway.
