Obviously not applicable in the UK, but here's a
perspective from the US:
1. Did you misrepresent anything to the ins co? Ie,
did they ask if it was modified, or imported, etc., to
which you replied "uh, no."? If you did, correct it.
2. My v. little experience with MOTs had nothing to
do with insurance. If it was MOTd, it was safe. If
you have an MOT on the bike, you are safe, and the
ins. co cannot refuse to pay on that basis alone. (I
assume that if the bike was not MOTd and you had a
claim related to one of the systems MOT check out,
they would not pay.)
3. I would suspect this is v. common, that EU
bikes/cars are brought over all the time. Call your
insurance co. (from a mate's house, just in case), do
not give them your name, and ask them the situation.
4. Here, ins. cos will do whatever they can to not
pay. If there is a question, it's better to be safe
than sorry, especially as you could easily get a new
sticker for the speedo, or even paint on the mph
numbers. On the other hand, if you answered all their
questions accurately and did not (and do not) believe
that you need to do anything else, you are covered.
The real question in the US at least is did you
withhold material information from your insurance co.
Safety equipment (headlights) would be material, IMHO.
If you got an MOT with a metric speedo, IMHO, that
would not be material.
5. How comfortable are you taking on an insurance
company? I love it, but not everyone does, and
obviously it's cheaper for me being an attorney
myself. They realize I ahve no overhead to get into
court and they do.
6. I have no idea how these things work in the UK.
Might be best just to clear it up in case you even
need to claim.
7. About these stickers, are they freely available
there? I need one for my SV650s import from Canada.
I can actually do the conversions, but sometimes it
jsut easier (esp at speed) to look down and not have
to do math. For now, I am using a bright nail polish.
