We are in the 21st century. The version of the list software is only about
5 months old. :-)

Yep. And I, for one, loathe it. Mailing lists come to me. I can read and
respond in close to real-time. Web-based discussion groups (which, for
what it is worth, are nearly as old as mailing lists. They started on BBS
systems waaaaayyyy back in the 80's (possible 70')).
Further, you have to have web-space and bandwidth to host it. With a list,
the hit on the hosting site is small. With a BBS system, the host server
bears the brunt of all the access. Can you imagine being in Jakarta and
your only way to read the list was via a www connection to California or
some such. With an e-mail list, the mail comes to your mailbox, whereever
your mailbox is.
Again, my opinion only. I do challenge the assumption that Ultimate BBS is
new where-as Listserv is archaic. :-)
Take care,
Mike
