Put me under the category as thinking "Why didn't Yamaha do
this in the first place?" (Kelly likes 'em)

I found my wrists hurt using the stock bars. I put on the Heli's,
and noticed a little difference, but not much at all. I got used
to 'em, and later tried a couple of GTSs that didn't have the
bars. EGAD!! What pain!!

Now, having said that, I find that I ride two different ways.
mostly, I ride fairly upright, in "touring mode." There, the
Heli's shine. Occasionally I ride much more aggressively,
leaning far forward and down. Then it feels like my wrists are
too high. I think the stock bars might be better for that.

Which bears out a comment I once heard a Yamaha rep say:
"When there's a question whether to be more sporty or more
anything else, Yamaha will lean towards the sport side."
Whether or not that's true, I think it is in the case of the
GTS stock bars.
