Reasons not to buy a Harly Ableson: 1. Not reliable. 2. Will
eventually leak oil. 3. Handles, brakes, sounds and looks like a
tank (with saddles bags) 4. And for all this, people are still
willing to pay AT LEAST TWICE as much then the bike is acutally
worth. An HD owner may counter by saying that an HD is a good
resale value. Well, most real motorcycle riders and enthusiasts
don't buy bikes to resell them but to ride. Most non HD
macufactured bikes have performance, reliability, style and
value.
Today's obsession by most new rider's with Hardly Ableson is
SOLELY based on a HOLLYWOOD image in an effort to be a hard ass
who has to have tatoos and wear everything black to be cool. In
reality, MOST newer HD riders who have fueled the HD cruiser
market's recent popularity are 35 years old and up and don't have
a clue about motorcycles in general since most are probably first
time riders who may have some extra cash to waste to purchase a
"toy". This group has experienced the highest increase in
motorcycle related fatalities nation wide. I'm sure that some of
these buyers do purchase non HD make models, but the accidents
that I read about in the papers involving cruisers have all been
Harleys!
As a rider for over twenty years, I have owned 4 Yamahas (sport
and sport touring) bikes with a great deal of satisfaction and
have been involved with other riders who own a variety of bikes
that include all the Japanese, Italian and British manufacturers.
It simply amazes me that people but will actually buy a
motorcycles like HD and PRETEND to enjoy being SHAKEN AND RATTLED
to the bone. That's marketing for ya!
