With respect to our buddy Steve who works for that American company, here is
my experience and observation on the HD subject.
The new twin cams seem to be much smoother than the older models. The rubber
mounted EVO engines are smoother than the models without rubber mounting.
I rode two Harley's during a bike week a few years back just to try to figure
out what the hype was about. I had succumb to the statement, "If I have to
explain, you wouldn't understand." I have concluded, in my own opinion, that
people say that not because I wouldn't understand, because there is nothing
to explain. I rode a full dresser that had less ergonomic room than a Yamaha
Royal Star. It also had less horsepower, was not shaft drive, did not come
with a 5 year warranty, was air cooled and so on. Then I rode a really great
looking wide glide, or low rider, something like that. The looks really
turned me on. It was a gorgeous candy apple red with drag bars. The engine
had had some mods to pump up the HP. I took it down the street and was
getting into traffic so I decided to make a U turn. I pulled in the clutch
and initiated the turn when the thing stalled. My first thought? The dealer
is asking $20,000 for a used bike that wont even idle?? You have got to be
kidding. He wasn't. I will agree that Harley has some good looking bikes. I
also believe guys ride them because chicks dig them. I guess if you need a
motorcycle to attract women, then you need a Harley. Other than that, they
are not what I want in a motorcycle. Although they appear to be massive and
strong in construction, they do not hold up well when pushed to their limits.
Relatively speaking, to comparable Japanese models, Harley's are fragile.
As for the rumor that women enjoy the vibrations....... I had one woman tell
me it was a fact, she did notice it right away and found it quite
pleasurable. That is her opinion and I do not know it to be true myself.
DONE!
