I didn't have the cold stalling problem with my '93, but I definitely had
the surging problem. Replacing the '93 ECU with the '94 ECU did solve the
problem. Yamaha must have thought of this as a solution for the surging as
they performed the replacement under warranty. Prior to replacing the ECU,
Yamaha had my mechanic tinker with the bike extensively to no avail. The
mechanic even tried Kevin Hawkins pot adjustment technique which I had told
him about and there was still no improvement. After two days of exhaustive
tinkering and test rides with no improvement (I stayed at the dealership
almost the whole time), they dropped in the new ECU and the surging was
gone.

Duane

And if I remember correctly the main issue it resolved was to keep the
('93)bike from stalling when cold if you cut the throttle abruptly.
Don't remember anyone ever saying it was a cure for the "surge" issue.
Jeff B. if you decide to go this route please report back on the result.
It definitely will make the bike run richer since '94s typically get
less gas mileage than the '93s. RSRBOB any more input on differences???
Any chance of just getting the code for the EPROM instead of $1200 for a
box???
