In oil filters and with phallus's, sometimes longer is better, sometimes
wider
is better. I would think that more of BOTH is better.

Subject: Re: Glenn;s choice of Oil Filters
Has anyone considered the LENGTH of the filter to be an issue? Greater
media surface area can be obtained through extending the length of the
filter or through more pleats. Problem is, if the filter is longer than
stock it is also closer to the exhaust headers which could lead to
premature failure of some internal components. Also, unless you are able to
determine the number of pleats and the effectiveness of the filter media,
longer is not necessarily better.......................WITH OIL FILTERS!!!!

I dont think I would skimp on the filter. Personally, I would immediately
remove the cheap filter and put on a OEM, Mobil 1 or Amsoil filter. The
OEM
filter is very small, so if your Walmart filter is even shorter, you are
really giving up filter surface area and possibly getting a pressure loss.
OEM's can be had for $7-9, the Amsoil is around 9-10.
This is sort of like a human that dines on lots of sausage, bacon, etc.
The damage slowly accumulates until at about 45-50 years old you need to
see
a cardiologist. JMHO. PS: The Mobil 1 and Amsoil equivilent of the
Yamaha OEM filter also fits the Infiniti Q45 V-8 engine.

they are surprisingly well constructed although >not as tall as OEM and
only
$1.98. I am using one on the GTS right now.
