If you adjust the shocks and can't get a good overall ride you probably need to do something (or you're bottoming out alot when you shouldn't be). Stock shocks are rebuildable as some have done already, seems like there were two places, one in CA and one in Wa?. Probably no "magic" mileage number on when to do something. As for replacement shocks, they are more expensive than rebuilding the stock ones, but in the case of the rear shock the replacements may offer easier adjustment of preload and rebound. Stock rear is a bear to adjust preload (at least on my '93 with the tool supplied). As for the Ohlins shocks, according to Wim Kroon the importer, the replacement shocks for the GTS have a bit stiffer spring that is progressive and works much better for overall duty including two-up over the stock shocks. Those that have bought them tend to agree to this. BTW the GTS shocks are still showing available on their web site http://www.ohlins.nl/kroon.htm <http://www.ohlins.nl/kroon.htm> for 577euro dollars for the front and 531euro for the rear. The rear one comes with a remote preload adjuster that mounts to the bolt on the passenger peg by the picture given. Someone on the list had tried the Works shocks and were not impressed, might have been Mike Coan, but it's been a long time ago. Mike Coan would be a good one to ask about shocks since he's got 3 or 4 GTS' stashed around the world and put lots of miles on them, don't know if he's actually active on the list though...Bob B.
