Just a minor, pedantic correction. There's no such thing as an "HID type bulb".
A High Intensity Discharge lighting system uses gas-filled lamps that produce
light when a high voltage current (~35KV) produces an arc within the enclosure.
The tungsten-halogen H4 bulbs sold by PIAA (and others) that have an blue color
emit light that's somewhat similar in color temperature to that of an HID lamp,
but has a very different intensity and spectrum. Since the human eye is
physiologically biased into seeing the blue end of the spectrum (cooler color
temperature) as "brighter", these bulbs seem brighter than stock for the same
wattage. That appearance doesn't necessarily relate to a significantly higher
output in lumens.

Anyway, if you like the bulbs, if they help you see better at night, if they
help you be seen better, use them. However, they are not HID.
