I know I know.......they're not HID's, but neither was the price. And PIAA makes some pretty good lights so I thought I would give them a try. I had switched from the OEM bulb to a 130/90w bulb the year before and was concerned about the heat it generated as well as the draw it put on the electrical system, so I thought I'd give these PIAA Super Plasma bulbs a try.
I have to disagree with that article about these lights performance though. I think they are as good as the 130/90w bulb I had and yet with the same draw as the factory 60/55w bulb too. I live on an acreage out of the city so I actually get a chance to see the difference, and it's not the color that's allowing me to see further. I'm sure true HID's are the choice of champions. However I use my PIAA 1100X driving lights (55w) to light up the rest of my riding world at night. Right, I think it was overboost.com that did a test on these 'blue' bulbs, they were so bad that one example even put out 50% of the light of a normal H4 bulb. They used a lightmeter and tried it in a car at different distances. Very interesting reading. It was mainly aimed at the 'riceboys' with their lowered Acuras with coffee-can exhaust, they love the blue lights, so the test was done to see if they really put out "85watts through a 55watt bulb" as they claim. Nope.
