I've had my hugger fender off all year...I haven't noticed any
ill-effects...even in heavy rain...I guess the tail light must get a bit
dirtier...but can't say I really noticed it. If you remove the fender you'll
need to support the chainguard since it bolts to the fender at one end. I
rivetted a small aluminum support to the chain guard which bolts to the
fender mounting hole on the swingarm...looks fine. Hope thats not the one
that broke!

I suppose it's not that much weight compared to the weight of the bike but
it always makes you feel better when you can ditch something that makes the
bike look better AND saves weight (especially as you said - un-sprung
weight). Now if only that dam Corbin didn't add about 5 times what I saved
on the fender!

Here's another one in that category...the chrome cover on the front shock.

Cheers Joe.

Subject: Rear fender-ectomy

Hi Folks,
I removed my rear fender because the actual bolt-hole on the swing
arm broke
off (after 110,000 miles of riding). No suprise- that fender has some
mass and has
to go up and down with every bump (as unsprung weight).
I am wondering: Has anyone who removed the rear fender noticed any
extra splash back during rain or other adverse effects?

-Greg
