Robin, you only have to change the can part of the exhaust and it's a very-very simple task indeed. At the bottom you loosen the clamp (by the catalytic converter) then the other bolt on the frame and you pull the can off. Take it physically to the parts store or measure the OD of the pipe and tell them what size the new one has to be. There is one idiosyncrasy though, your new can should mount identically with the stock can if you have hard bags (I assume you will for such a long travel) since it has to hang lower then most sporty after market cans. BTW no adjustments is required since the computer compensates for air/fuel mixture.
Understand that you can run the bike without a can period, back pressure is provided by the cat not the can. Ask me how I know :-)).......and what a lovely sound it makes.
