Have you never done a compression test ?  Or a leak-down test ?  I have a
compression tester, but I have never attempted it on my bike...

I replaced Mobil 1 15/50 with AMSOIL 20w-50 during my Mexico/Alaska
ride....no noticeable improvement in oil consumption.  I use a larger oil
filter.

Heat sink on the filter...a thought.  Right after I insulation my fuel
tank....:>)
