I did do enough research to find out that titanium gears aren't
practical cause they gall too easily.  The more exotic materials are
just too dear$$$.  Maybe a steel gear on a carbon fiber tubular shaft -
hey if Chevy can use it in a truck...

It's a nice dream. Maybe someday. In the meantime, I'll bet that a
'belt' drive could be rummy'd up. It would be the next best thing.

So....who's done it?
