22% savings in fuel consumtion with 10% reduction in gear ratio. This is good stuff.
5th for cruising, 4th for passing, and 3rd for twisties works for me.

I went with 17/42 steel sprockets from
http://www.sprocketspecialists.com/html/yamaha9.html

The 42 does bring the chain close to the swing arm - you have to stay on
top of chain adjustment.  It's a little slowwer to accerlate from a
stop.  You'll have to downshift to pass, especially on two lane roads
(obviously depends on your speed).  I haven't calculated the milage but
the  "low fuel light" used to come on @ 160 miles, now about 195 - 75MPH
interstate.  You'll be about 1 gear lower in the twisties.

I was not impressed with the quality of workmanship/finish from Sprocket
Specialists.

I took out 2 links from the chain - didn't count but I'm pretty sure it
was 120 to start with.
