1, ship it to me, I'll take care of it!
2, make sure the tires are off the ground (prevents flatspots)
3, maybe put a 'breathing' bike cover on it that repels moisture
4, overfill the oil so all the engineparts are soaked in there (leave a
reminder to yourself to drain when you get back)
5, disconnect battery and REMOVE battery from bike
6, lube chain

The key is really to keep moisture off of it, make sure all lubed parts are
lubed to prevent moisture, rust and sticktion and to keep the tires off the
ground.

I don't remember who, but a carcover place makes a 'bubble' that you put the
bike in, then it has a little airfilter/pump that keep air circulating and
dried.  Preserved bike. :)
