Hey Doug, Sound like you could have a waterpump seal problem. If water is getting past the seal it will drip out a small weephole behind the pump and drip down on a small ledge near the bottom of the motor. This will produce the radiator fluid / overheating smell. When in fact it is not overheating, just leaking. Look for residue evidence under the waterpump (left side just in front of sprocket) or look for dripage there next time you smell it.
