Hi Doug , make sure your fans work , if they don't it could either be
they're stuck or the sensor switch located in the top R/H corner of the rad
is faulty , it may be a good idea to drain down the coolant system and
replace with new coolant , the plastic overflow res is filled with a mix the
same as in the system .
There isn't an easy way to get to the dummy light that i know of , it's a
top fairing off job .
I must admit from what you say it sounds like you have a coolant leak that
is putting coolant over either the engine or the rad ( hence the smell ).
This is probably why the dummy light isn't coming on , the fans should kick
in before the light comes on .
