ABS kicking in will not yield the shortest stopping distance. I hope the
new Beemer system is better though I'm not a fan of linked brakes. If
you look at the real numbers Beemers have always had just "ok" brakes in
terms of braking distance. The GTS will significantly out stop a Beemer
and most other bikes on the road. I read in one of the motomags one time
(maybe it was an article on the new VFR) that an ABS equipped bike can't
do better than 120ft in a 60-0 mph stop. Obviously they never tested the
GTS, or just don't consider it since it is 10 years old and out of
production. Bob B.

This past summer woke me up. One student I had in an ERC was using the
technique of "grab 'em/abs 'em" expecting to be stopped in the shortest
distance. That was on a Beemer. Whether he was actually stopping in
the
shortest distance is a question to which I don't know the answer. What
I do
know is that the new Beemer linked-power assisted abs stops damn
quickly--but whether it stops quicker than a rider who can do maximum
braking is the question and again I don't know the answer.
