More like 45 year old technology - if you want to make the Triumph anything
like reliable in the modern sense you're probably going to have to strip
and blueprint the motor, rebuild the cylinder head with better valve, seat,
seal and guide materials, re-engineer chunks of the wiring loom, switches
and connectors, find a better generator . . etc.

All this stuff is/was available from Hyde's and no doubt others, but are
you looking for something to 'fettle', or do you want a machine to
ride?  Old Triumphs are high involvement / high maintenance, no matter how
little you use them - and don't bother with the starter motor on a frosty
morning!

The Triumph now has 175 miles on it,
Let a museum buy it.  Go looking for one around $4,500 that's been owned by
someone who isn't a bullsh!tter and will talk frankly about the machine's
weak points.  You'll need the other $3,500 to cover the expected
'unexpected' expenditure  - or buy a Hinckley Triumph, that's what I'd say.

I love old Brit Iron and I'm a great fan of the T160 for looks, style and
exhaust note, I'll probably buy one when I can afford a heated garage and
my own personal mechanic!

BTW in all the above I'm presuming that spending $8,000 worries you!
