Sail, Check for spark. Obviously something is becoming overheated, causing contact to be lost and when it cools back down, contact is reestablished. One positive comment to make is that it is consistent, which make trouble shooting it a bit easier.

I've been down that path, and it is incredibly frustrating until you figure it out. Try opening the gas cap immediately after it dies, you should hear a sucking sound, and of course it will start right away if that's the problem.
