Methylated spirits are just grain alcohol denatured with wood alcohol (so you can't drink it). This would absorb the water but may not mix well with gasoline and may attack seals, orings, & other rubber parts. Lots of horror stories about gasohol (gasoline with 10% grain alcohol) and early cadilac fuel injectors. Alcohol is also corrosive towards some metals. This also would not prevent the gasoline from depositing varnish & crudding up your fuel system. Better to spring for a bottle of Stabile.
