the devs are trying to make good relations with any distros/DEs/DMs they can. I haven't brought up guix to them since I don't consider myself a representative of the distro, but if anyone's interested (and brave) enough you could try their ML and see what they have to say.

If the xlibre devs come out and definitively say they hate guix for some reason, I won't try and push the package. I don't think that's going to happen, I think a lot of the hate is overblown, but either way I'll keep packaging it in my channel.

I read somebody recall talking with a taxi driver about the experience of visiting their country.

The passenger wondered why in shops each person entering shook hands with everybody else in the queue.

The driver's perspective was that people had gone through much as a consequence of their brutal civil war. It became a common heuristic to formalise friendliness with everybody - as its harder to be brutal towards 'others' if one has built up empathy and commonality.

I take the greatest pleasure doing things and interacting with people who think and act differently but that needs to be grounded in (potentially oscillating?) levels of personal and wider respect.

While its unfortunate that such discussions remind us how we are individually distinct and indeed have a variance of opinion and tollerences within our community I appreciate that we try to articulate our commonality (writing things between parentheses),... if not represent the best in ourselves.

Perhaps you should consider taking baby steps wrt to this situation?

For instance you could provide package definitions on an independent channel and add it to this webring:
https://whereis.social/

As such, it sidesteps the/any politics of Guix as a centralised repository - while still providing availability.

Over time, should you have more confidence regarding the vibe there being less molten then your persistence and patience would pay off. On the other hand, if your own feelings deteriorate then there would be no loss of face for anybody if something in a third party channel never quite made it.

I wouldnt feel the need to emphasize any representative capacity any more or less than anybody else from Guix - though you should not feel any awkwardness stating your OS should you interact with them. Should they have an amusing disparaging remark towards Guix you can forward it to me bilaterally for my own flagellation. I personally wouldnt ask for permission or gauge sentiment towards Guix, as that confuses things; risks rebuke; and unnecessarily gives away agency.

Thanks for being patient and sensitive.
I hope my own intervention following your initial post wasnt too counterproductive.

Kind regards,

Jonathan
