If you've cleared the side(s) of the river for barge work, you'll be 
moving lots of stuff via barges - it's not worth it otherwise. Also, 
over long distances barges are better than pack animals or carts - an 
animal can tow much more weight in a barge than it can with a cart or 
on its back.
