approximate reduction in target area, which means a -1 to hit.

But when calculating modifiers based on the Size and Speed/Range table, you figure the target's mod by its longest dimension. In the case of humans, that would be height. A 6 foot tall man, is still 6 feet tall even when turned sideways.

The main exception to that rule is for objects that are much smaller in one dimension than the others (the example is for a very long, but narrow cable). I don't think humans qualify for that.
