Background: I'm cooking up a character for a game that will be centered around "small gods" and "spirits of place": kami, genii loci, dormavoi, etc.
My character is shaping up into a forge spirit with a bit of a Japanese flavor to her (mostly because it's easier to find information on kami/megami online than it is to find information on genii loci). I feel a little ridiculous, but I've picked up Weapon Master (Iron weapons) and Signature Gear (daishō) (and Weapon Bond for both weapons). What I need now is a name for the set and for the individual swords. I'm also totally clueless on a character name that would be appropriate, too. I don't know if the character would simply be referred to as "The megami of the <name of village> forge" or if she should have a proper name, or what. Is it appropriate to name the daishō as a whole, and the individual swords? Or should I just be naming the daishō (or just the individual swords)? The character has a bit of a theme going, with iron, horses, and the wind. My creativity is limited so I've been considering calling the set "Iron Wind", with the Katana called "Big wind" or "great wind" and the wakizashi called "little wind" or "small wind". With my absolutely fractured knowledge of Japanese, I think this either works out to "daipū" and "shōpū", or "daikaze" and "shōkaze". I haven't got a clue what "iron" is in Japanese or even if I'm putting the words togeather in the right order. Does the idea even scan nicely in Japanese? Anyone have any suggestions that seem more appropriate? -- Emily Smirle Zwischen Leber und Milz, passt immer noch eine Pils.
