This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the
GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial
redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on
a website or the like. The files at omeyer.gmxhome.de are down until
I fix the automatic PDF generation, which should be one of these
days - see sourceforge.net/projects/gurpsml

The 'double issue' of this week presents the same ship twice, once as
a Vehicles design and once with the Spaceships rules. The twin versions
are not interchangeable in the same game, but they have a similar look
and feel in both systems.

3,000-ton Streamlined Hyperfreighter v1.0 (TL10)
  Copyright 2010 by Onno Meyer

This starship uses one obvious violation of physics as we know it (the
hyperdrive) and a few less obvious ones to allow interstellar travel and
adventures. The freighter is streamlined for planetary landings to avoid
any dependence on orbital transfer stations or shuttles.
The freighter can transport 1,200 tons of cargo and up to 100 crew and
passengers. The numbers of working crew and family aboard depends on the
length of the flight, but there should be 50 or more passenger berths.
She can spin for 0.06 G, much less than even lunar gravity but enough
to simplify maintenance, cleaning and life support design. The ship has
twin x-ray lasers, somewhat oversized for mere asteroid defense.
The fusion rockets use 4,000 gallons of reaction mass per minute. A
full load of provisions is $240,000.

Subassemblies: Body +9, twenty retractable wheels +4.
Powertrain: Six 2,000,000-lb. vectored fusion rockets; 7,500-ton
hyperdrive; 75-kW RTG; two 50,000-kW fusion reactors; six
450,000,000-kWs rechargeable power cells; 72,000,000-kWs rechargeable
  power cell.
Fuel: 200,000 gallons water.
Occ: 20 RCS, 50 bunks, 20 double-occupancy cabins, 5 single-occupancy
  cabins, 5 luxury cabins.
Cargo: 120,000 cf.

Weaponry
Two 180-MJ X-Ray Lasers [Bod:F] (75 shots each) +2.

Equipment:
Body: Spin hull (6-yard radius); full stabilization and cyberslave
mounts for X-Ray Lasers; two extreme-range radios; two extreme-range
laser communicators ; two 16,000-mile, air-search radars; two 3,200-mile
thermographs; 3,200-mile radscanner; three x400 astronomical LLTVs; two
sets of precision navigation instruments; four transponders; six
inertial navigation systems; two HUDWACs with pupil scanners; advanced
radar/laser detector; three C7 hardened mainframes; 96 terminals; three
full fire suppression systems; engineering workshop; operating room;
four automeds; cargo ramp; two 15-man airlocks; four 100 man-day limited
life systems; two 100-man full life systems; 40,000 man-days of
provisions. External: Radiation shielding.

Design Notes
Body is 300,000 cf, with very good streamlining and lifting body.
Wheels are 15,000 cf, retract into Body. Structure is extra-heavy,
standard. Armor is standard composite. Sealed. Computerized controls
with triplicate maneuver controls. 1,283 cf of empty space. Empty weight
is 1,800,000 lbs.

rule) with the text format from Vehicles Lite.

3,000-ton Streamlined Hyperfreighter, Spaceships Version v1.0 (TL10^)

adventures. The freighter is streamlined for planetary landings to avoid
any dependence on orbital transfer stations or shuttles.
The freighter can transport 890 tons of cargo and up to 100 crew and
passengers. The numbers of working crew and family aboard depends on the
length of the flight, but there should be 50 or more passenger berths.
The freighter has a 3,000-ton (SM+9) streamlined hull.

Systems Table

Front Hull System
[1] Nanocomposite Armor (dDR 20).
[2] Habitat (15 bunkrooms, 4 automed sickbay, 1 minifac).
[3] Habitat (20 cabins).
