I'm not particularly familiar with the original, but in Spaceships I imagine I'd probably go with a family of sizes using the large system / small system rules. Say, a Class A Drive Module is a single block in an SM+10 ship - then it's an oversized (3-slot) drive in SM+9, and takes up a third of a slot in an SM+11 ship. Class B is sized for SM+11, and so on.
