This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the
GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial
redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on
a website or the like. The files at omeyer.gmxhome.de are down until
I fix the automatic PDF generation, which should be one of these
days - see sourceforge.net/projects/gurpsml

Robot Space Cruiser Mk.VIIIa v1.0 (TL15)
Copyright 2012 by Onno Meyer
The Mk.VIIIa is a fully automated starship. Without a biological crew,
she can mount more armor, bigger engines, and larger guns than a normal
Mk.VIII Cruiser.
Her hull is a 200 m sphere, with bulges and blisters for the sublight
thrusters, the weapons, and the sensor arrays. On average, her armor is
6 m thick, and it is covered by four layered force screens. She has an
airlock on the lowermost deck, and usually one of the three hangars is
left empty for visiting craft.
The crew are more than a million robots, ranging from microbot repair
swarms to thousand-ton robot starfighters, and any size in between. She
has passenger quarters for 50 to 100 humanoids, and even a chamber to
talk to the AI, but that is just to comfort the passengers -- the real
robot brain is distributed through the ship. Going beyond the quarters,
into the engineering sections, is a harrowing experience. There are no
catwalks, no safety railings, no room numbers, often not even lights.
She is armed with one 54-TJ antiparticle beam, a secondary battery of
3.6-TJ antiparticle beams and fusion guns, and 6.4-GJ grasers for point
defense. In a notional engagement between a Mk.VIIIa and a Mk.VIII, the
main gun of the Robot Cruiser could fire right through the screens and
armor of the ordinary ship, and the faster Robot Cruiser could pick her
range at will.

The vehicle uses the design rules from Vehicles [second edition, third
printing, January 2007 errata], VXi (including the structural volume
rule), VXii (including the armor volume rule), UTT and Robots with the
text format from Vehicles Lite. The GM should probably set a FTL factor
well over 0.2, perhaps in the five figures for intergalactic flights.
Next Week: A smaller, less advanced starship.
