Hi all,

Depending on the relative Tech Level of bio-tech in this scenario, there is
always DNA donation (e.g. sperm and ovum donations, either through complex
trade rituals and casual intercourse or via banks and artificial insemination)
to insure diversification.  It would add an interesting cultural/social
dimension that could touch upon some controversial ethical issues that we might
face in the near future.  E.g. trade agreements for DNA of people with known
Talents beneficial to merchant traders (photographic memory, 3-D Spatial
Awareness, lightning calculator, Combat Reflexes, whatnot).  Are the Space
Gypsies isolationists, believers in maintaining a pure line, or aggressive
eugenists-- how does this segway with any potential "tribal"/religious
beliefs?  I have to think that a culture of traders-- based on fine-tuning
tweaks to optimize profit/loss wouldn't invariably start thinking about genetic
tweaks if the tech is available and maintaining genetic diversity is an issue.
OK, we have to bring in new genes, they might as well be good ones.  What do we
need?
