An option is small ships, run by independents, who can go in and make a
profit in areas that a large corps might not want to go into.. Have a
collection point in space for the miners to send their ore/by products and
it be collected by a large company/corps that also mines but larger scale..
I know in Nome the gold company still operates its dredges on land, slowing
churning up the ground in search of gold. While every summer small time
operators will go to the beaches and using suction dredges and a sluice box,
will get the much smaller or concentrated. While the BEAMA a giant ocean
going dredge has moved away to I believe Kamchatka pennsula where gold is
easier to find and in the quantities it needs to be profitable.
