Solar Power Sat v1.0 (TL9) Copyright 2013 by Onno Meyer This station was designed for a setting where interplanetary travel is starting to become routine -- the SPS would be assembled near Earth, but most of the raw materials come from Luna and the asteroids. The Solar Power Sat has a small control module between two large solar panels. There are no permanent crew facilities, just a few bunks for the maintenance staff. The control module also contains the microwave power transmitter. The rated power output is 1.8 GW. Improved fusion power probably dooms the Solar Power Sats in the long run. They could become a footnote in history, a part of the CV of space heroes, or they could become the founding myth of a true orbital nation when unionizing workers fight against cost-cutting corporate executives.
