The name helped with the search:

http://stargate.wikia.com/wiki/Field_Remote_Expeditionary_Device

The Stargate RPG (p. 343) describes it as

Top speed 3MPH, max 6h on an rechargeable power cell carrying 1 ton of cargo. 4'Lx3'Wx6'H. (12cf of internal cargo?)

On a flat road it can be driven at "overdrive" for 5MPH, at double power consumption. Similarly it can be loaded with an additional 0.5 tons' cargo, but this further halves endurance. Remote control range 75 feet.

and multiple versions of Mobile All-Terrain Laboratory
Platform (M.A.L.P.) on of which is wheeled,

Lots of sensors, normal top speed 5MPH tracked, 144h of operation per rechargeable cell, and a robotic arm. Remote control range 500 feet.

and another is supposedly a
flier (I have not seen either because I missed a lot of the episodes
when it went from Fox to SyFy Channel.

There was an episode where Carter used a missile from a crashed drone
to shoot somebody.

The "UAV" is launched from the Stargate chamber with a cannon, so it can fly as soon as it clears the event horizon. Its radio acts as a phone relay, and provides navigational info to the team. The UAV possesses a self-destruct device (blast radius 5'). Remote control range 15 miles. 75MPH, endurance 1h.

It seems from what I have seen
of the FRED, it is based on one version of the DARPA MULE UCV contest.

For a TV show or a roleplaying game it makes sense to use a small squad
with support equipment like a mule. So how do you explain it if you
don't just want to say "pay no attention to the man behind the curtain"?

* The vehicles must function in a wide range of environments. That means
no internal combustion engines. Most late 20th century vehicles won't
qualify, then. Problem: If the characters are air-breathing, where is
   the objection against air-breathing vehicles?

May be in contained areas, such as large vehicles, caves?

Perhaps low air flow, particularly if the gate is bricked into a chamber...

* On many worlds, the gate is in a building/temple/whatever. Usually
vehicles just don't work. Problem: There will still be enough worlds
   to justify a vehicle fleet.

Depends on size. The canonical vehicles can all go where a person can, and on basic stairs...

* The player characters are not THE stargate team, they're just one
among many. Want a Blackhawk? Maybe next fiscal year. In the meantime,
   carry on and soldier.

Or the party has a choice of vehicles, after all. That's the option for
a vehicle fan like me.

- A Super-HMMWV for deserts, grassland, etc. 4x4, amphibious, a front
winch, commo and sensors, several pintle-mounted weapons for all
   occasions.

- A tracked snow and swamp vehicle.

Depends on the ground pressure! :/

- A helicopter if they're in a hurry, and don't mind the limited
endurance. Stealth, door guns, missiles, mast-mounted sight.

- A small, low-endurance starship (relatively speaking). Instead of
bunkrooms, there are just seats, because the home base is usually
just a gate away. There needs to be an excuse why it isn't used
   all the time, however.

Can you see from orbit where the gate is?
