This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the
GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial
redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on
a website or the like. The files at omeyer.gmxhome.de are down until
I fix the automatic PDF generation, which should be one of these
days - see sourceforge.net/projects/gurpsml

Research Ship Mk.IV (Spartan Version) v1.0 (TL11)
  Copyright 2014 by Onno Meyer

  The Research Ship carries a group of scientists to distant worlds. Her
crew and the laboratory can be tailored to the mission, from geophysical
surveys to xenoarchaeological digs.
  The design is as small as possible for the scientific payload, at the
expense of living quarters and a great deal of efficiency -- the people
who make such decisions usually don't ride in small Research Ships. She
has a cylindrical hull which flares out into a lifting body. From nose
to tail, there are the cockpit, a tiny cubicle for the captain, a crew
bunkroom, the main airlock and the EVA ready room, the lab, a bunkroom
for the scientists, and finally the engine room.
  It takes 163 hours at full thrust or 5 hours coasting to recharge the
power cell for one hyperspace entry.

Subassemblies: Body +6, three retractable Skids +3.
Powertrain: Three 160,000-lb. vectored super reactionless thrusters;
  1,200-ton hyperdrive; 28,000-kW fusion reactor; 432,000,000-kWs
  rechargeable power cell.
Occ: 4 bridge RCS, 18 bunks. Cargo: 120 cf.

  Body: Two extreme-range radios; very-long-range tight-beam radio;
very-long-range laser communicator; two 1,500-mile AESAs; two
1,500-lightsecond FTL radars; two 1,500-mile PESAs; 1,000-mile

planetary survey array; 100-lightsecond FTL emergence detector;
100-lightsecond FTL scan detector; two flight recorders; two sets of
precision navigation instruments; two transponders; two inertial
navigation systems; two C7 hardened microframes; ten terminals; full

sAccel: 4 G sMR: 4 FTL Speed: 4 parsecs per day

Design Notes
  Body is 9,000 cf, with lifting body and very good streamlining. Skids
are 450 cf, retract into Body. Structure is medium, standard. Armor is
expensive composite. Sealed. Computerized controls with duplicate
maneuver controls. 275.57 cf of empty space. Empty weight is 114,000
lbs.
  The vehicle uses the design rules from Vehicles [second edition, third
printing, July 2010 errata], VXi, and VXii (including the armor volume
rule) with the text format from Vehicles Lite.

Next Week: Quarters along the lines of the Navy manual.
