Based on this scenario, the Airships are just the successors of the balloons 
that are used before: instead of beeing driven by wind, now with the Airships, 
the harvesters can control direction much better. Perhaps grav platforms would 
do the job even better, but they are not (yet) in scope of evolution. This 
would be even more true when the gas that is used in the airships/balloons is 
also harvested with the crops/lifestock from the trees. In that case, only the 
hull needs to be manufactured somehow - or, more precise, the lifting body, as 
perhaps the hull materiel could be natural as well. Oh, and the engine, of 
course …

This would give the airship a significant advantage over a grav vehicle, and it 
would eliminate the need for ‚technobabble‘ and ‚local superstitions‘ - 
although they would work, too.
