In fact, I did not really thought about a biogenered airship, more about ‚natural‘ balloons that are used to build the lifting body. But of course, a Biomechanics Airship would be an alternative - although it does not answer your question. Background for my idea was a culture that used balloons to harvest the crop/lifestock from the trees in the world that Johannes suggested. Once they got the required TL (by their own development or from offworld) to build an engine to thrust a balloon, they invented the airship. So this kind of ‚flying' is inborn to the culture, and the airship is the natural next step on the evolution ladder after the balloon - where this ladder will have grav platforms on later steps, of course. But for *now*, this technology is too expensive for the majority, as it is completely imported from offworld.
