Yeah, I'm getting a picture a Me 262, a Gloster Meteor or Lockheed P-80 trying 
to intercept a flying saucer and the results appear comical.

This week's radar airship would have carried the interceptor, Macon-style, if the design had worked out. That would have given thousands of feet of "free" altitude. Of course recovery would have been impossible because of the stall speed, so it could only launch if there was an airstrip on the ground.
